INSPIRED by our success in Blandford Carnival 2012 when we took part in the procession on the day we opened our unit in Nightingale Court, we this year developed an entry for Blandford and Sturminster Newton Carnivals.

The DAG Arrows (Royal Chair Force) were loosely based on the Red Arrows aerial display team and featured scooters in formation with wings, tail fins, flashing lights, riders in helmets and goggles, and our DAG van carrying a control tower and speakers playing the sound track of ‘The Battle of Britain’.

The entry was a roaring success, coming first in its class at both carnivals, and resulting in an invitation to take part in Bridgwater Carnival in November where it again won its class.

At Sturminster Newton the DAG Arrows also won a trophy, the Gareth Airey Tankard, for “personality”, and at Blandford a second trophy for “humour”.

Grateful thanks are due to all those who spent hours putting our entry together, to those members taking part, and particularly to our volunteer workshop manager Mike Wells for his enthusiasm and effort in creating wings, tailfins and the control tower for the van.
